Something I created is Week 2 of the 52-week Gratitude challenge I decided I NEEDED to do for myself and my mental health. Having gratitude or at least writing down things that I am grateful for or have gratitude towards is a struggle. It’s like my mind goes blank.
Something I created is actually something I am creating. It’s a year long adventure that I started on the first day of summer. I am crocheting a temperature blanket using different shades of pink.
What is a temperature blanket?
It’s a colorful variation of colors (or in my case pinks)that represent the temperature over a period of time. Mine is June 20, 2024 – June 30, 2025. I choose 12 different shades of pinks for 12 different temperature ranges.
I am crocheting 100 stitches across each day. Each month will start with a gray yarn to represent the start of a new month. For example, July had 7 rows of gray yarn. I did this so I can remember where I started/stopped. This has actually been pretty beneficial in remembering which row I ended on. I am keeping a notebook, but sometimes I can overthink and confuse myself.
Does it have to be a blanket?
It doesn’t have to be a blanket. It’s just what I choose to do. There are so many different ways you can track the temperature creatively. Pinterest has so many cute designs. I have seen cross stitches, needlepoint, using flowers to represent the temperature. You can be so creative if you want to be.
The Breakdown of Something I Created – Temperature Blanket
I purchased a wooden key plaque from Etsy to keep track of my colors. I went to every yarn and craft store in my area to purchase every shade of pink they had. Then I went home and put the yarn from lightest shade of pink to darkest shade. I am glad that I did this because I really love the color pink, BUT it did mess with my vision because some pinks look so alike.
Once I had them in the order I wanted, I wrote down each color in my Google sheet. I cut yarn for each color. I chose 3pm central time as the time I want the temperature to be. My reasoning behind 3pm is that’s the time when it’s typically the highest temperature it will get for the day. Then each week I get on the website, time and date to check the temperature.
I am currently a few months behind but that’s ok. I really don’t travel or do much during the winter months, so I’ll have plenty of time to catch up. I’m also hoping in the next few months I start going to Sit & Stitch at the yarn place in my area. They have 2 nights a week where you can go in and work on your project. I really want to go but my social anxiety gets the best of me.
